Holcombe Battles Bad Luck at Bedford & Winchester
Austin Holcombe had a tough outing on Friday. His bad luck began with a blown tire on the trailer and RV issues, while en route to Bedford (Pa.) Speedway.
After finally making it to the track, Austin charged from eight-to-third in his heat race, which positioned him seventh on the feature grid. He was up to the fifth position early in the feature before getting into the wall, which broke the right rear and right front as well as bending the shock, center link, and rim.
On Saturday night the team's bad luck plagued them again as they invaded Winchester (Va.) Speedway for the Lee Stultz Memorial. The night started on a high note. With 28 competitors on hand, Austin qualified fastest in his group and third fastest overall. Despite battling an engine miss, he finished second in his heat race.
The team decided to pull out the back-up car for the feature. Starting last Holcombe was up to the eighth position when a car spun in front of him. Austin spun to dodge the competitor, and as a result had to go to the tail again. He rebounded to finish 12th.
He retired to a disappointing 17th-place finish.
